I have been working in the field of Haemostasis since 1997. I am involved in different projects and clinical studies on both platelets and coagulation. The methods I use are for example clotting assays, chromogenic assays, flow cytometry, aggregometry, ELISA, free oscillation rheometry, molecular biologi and cell culturing.

Function and role of thrombin receptors, PAR1 and PAR4 in platelets
I am studying platelet receptors and their involvement in platelet activation, platelet signalling and function in different haemostasis aspects. By light-transmission aggregometry, impedance, calcium-measurements and Western blot technique we can elucidate differences between these receptors, and their function in platelet activation.

Oral anticoagulation: Studies on warfarin treatment with emphasis on inter-individual variations and drug monitoring
My research is mainly focussed on oral anticoagulation, highlighting the genetic factors that contribute to interindividual variations in dose requirement and plasma warfarin. The two main methods for PT-measurement (Quick and Owren) are also studied and compared.

Platelet signalling pathways
I am focusing on elucidating signalling pathways and key enzymes implicated in activation and aggregation of human platelets. Activation of platelets by a primary agonist, such as thrombin, involves the secretion of pro-aggregatory mediators, including the adenine nucleotides ADP and ATP, as well as the generation and release of lipid mediators such as TXA2. Once released, these mediators initiate stimulatory loops by activating their respective platelet receptors, thereby representing important reinforcement mechanisms for platelet functions. We are interested if and how thrombin receptor subtypes, PAR1 and PAR4, differentially induce platelet activation, secretion, and aggregation, and to what extent these responses are dependent on subsequent signalling pathways induced by the secondary mediators ADP, ATP, and TXA2.

Platelets in transfusion medicine
My research is focused on the analysis of the quality platelet concentrates during storage and how various storage parameters will influence the functionality of the platelets.

Biomaterial and haemostasis
I am studying the interaction between artificial materials and blood. Different methods are used to measure the activation of coagulation, platelets and complement at the biomaterial surface.

Platelet function, receptors and receptor signalling
I am studying the platelet receptors with focus on the thrombin receptors PAR1 and PAR4. I am also investigating the interplay between thrombin receptors and other receptors, as well as looking into the signalling mechanisms of this. In my research I use flow cytometry, rheology, thrombin generation, aggregation and Ca2+ measurements.

Studies on the treatment of venous thromboembolism with oral vitamin K antagonists (warfarin).
My research interest is in the plasma coagulation in venous thromboembolism, especially the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism with vitamin K antagonists (warfarin). My studies include clinical studies on treatment organisation as well as includes laboratory and genetic markers potentially influencing the treatment.
